Preparing Young Musicians for the Joy of Performance
In addition to covering curriculum expectations, students are encouraged, trained and assisted in showcasing their creativity and talents at different times throughout the course of the academic year. The music program embodies this by teaching the following:
- Creating and performing music
- Forms and cultural contexts
- Music in advertising (jingles)
- Reflecting on, responding to and analysing music
-
Students from Grades 1-3 work with percussion instruments to harness their rhythm skills, in addition to exploring other areas of music. They learn to sing confidently in unison, to a prescribed pitch, and while maintaining a steady rhythm.
-
Students from Grades 4-5 learn how to sight-read music on the piano, in addition to exploring music from different cultures and historical periods. Across all grade levels, we explore, learn, create and grow in confidence.
-
The choir performs a wide variety of music in three-piece harmony. Impressive song selection, energetic stage presence, great voice quality, and precise harmony are some of the features that allow the CIS choir to deliver memorable performances, time after time.
-
Trinity’s graded Music exams offer the choice and flexibility to allow students to play to their strengths. Our students in CPS take part in the externally regulated and internationally recognized exam system, with a 140-year heritage where our students are trained to gain UCAS Points in Grade 6-8 in the Trinity Exam.
